"Mary Did You Know?" is one of my favorite religious Christmas songs. As a mom - having given birth to three of my own children - I love putting myself in Mary's place. I imagine the range of emotions Mary must have felt throughout her pregnancy. And the thought of holding Jesus Christ in my arms is overwhelming. Other words and emotions come to mind as well . . . joy, fear, anticipation, uncertainty, gratitude, etc.
It's calm. It's clean. It's peaceful. It's beautiful. Everything is covered. Every branch of every tree, even the tiniest little limb, is covered. Every piece of dirt or mud from the previous day is clean. Every blemish of the earth can no longer be seen.
Patience. From one mom's heart to another. If I am honest, I do not always show patience to my children, even though they are so valuable to me and I love them so much. Patience shows that what my children have to say is important and worth hearing. When I am patient, I wait to hear the whole story before I begin to speak and before I formulate responses in my mind. Patience allows God's wisdom and love to catch up with my initial emotional responses. Patience affords me the space to think clearly and respond to my children's actions, attitudes, and words with love.
The subconscious. Inner promptings. The Holy Spirit. Women's intuition. Gut feelings. The little voice inside my head. Whatever you believe it is or whatever you choose to call it, consider how well you listen and how well you act on what you hear.
I enjoy the cozy, comfy, home-focused writing that Becca shares in her blog. I am excited to share her thoughts and insights with you for this final day of the blog-venture. "Today is the day where we all remember to be thankful. As we sit around a turkey feast, grabbing a third piece of pie, and sharing what and who we are grateful for, our hearts are filled.
Today's blog post, "Best.Thanksgiving. Ever.", comes to you from Danny Ray. Danny gives us a dose of perspective for Thanksgiving by taking a look at Noah's attitude and gratitude.
"Can you picture Noah’s face when he saw the first rainbow?
It is Day 5 of the Thanksgiving Blog-Venture: 7 blogs in 7 days by 7 bloggers. Today's post comes from Tom who is full of wisdom, humor, and a love for pie! He has some great Thanksgiving thoughts and perspective to share with us today. "That time of year is here again. We have said goodbye to another summer and are now in the dwindling days of fall. If you live in Northern Michigan, I think we skipped over the last half of fall, and we are now knee deep in winter! Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The leaves changes, the sun takes on a different glow, there is a crispness in the air, and my thoughts turn to Thanksgiving – and pie! . . ."
I hope you are enjoying this focus on Thanksgiving and hearing from other great bloggers. Today's post is by my favorite blogger - my husband, Joe!! Joe says . . .
This is day four of a seven-part series on Thanksgiving. I’m honored to participate in a blog-hop with 7 friends, over 7 days all about Thanksgiving.
Day 3 of the Thanksgiving Blog-Venture: 7 days. 7 blogs. 7 bloggers. A couple years ago I chose "joyful" as my word for the year. By focusing on joy and reading books about joy my ability to choose joy improved radically. Today's blog, by Bev, is a beautiful presentation of how choosing the word gratitude for a year literally changed every area of her life. I think you will enjoy and be challenged.
It's Day 2 in our Thanksgiving blog-venture: 7 days. 7 blogs. 7 bloggers. Today's insights are from guest blogger, Pastor Terry. You will find some concepts that can have a great impact on the direction of your thoughts and your ability to be truly thankful this holiday season and throughout the year.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Are you naturally producing joy and thankfulness? Philippians 4:8, in the Bible, states:
Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, Think About These Things!
The mind is a powerful tool that can work for us or against us. I am working through the book 40 Days to a Joy-Filled Life, and I am continually struck by how important it is to be proactive when it comes to the mind. Our thoughts spiral. Negative thoughts go on a downward spiral, feeding off of each other, and producing more negative thoughts and emotions. These thoughts turn into emotions, then into words, and finally into actions.
Watching the movie Ratatouille with my family inspired my 13-year-old to want to do some cooking. I enjoy cooking for my family, even trying new recipes, but doing this task with my son was a true treat! AJ's first task was to choose a recipe. I was open to just about anything and he is willing to eat just about anything so the options were endless. He ventured into the notebook titled, "Traci's Favorites".
"Life is getting up an hour early to live an hour more." -Caribou Coffee I am generally not a morning person so my personal life motto would read more like this: Life is sleeping in an hour later because you can.
One night the kids and I were hanging out in the living room. I was on the couch with Celina snuggled on my lap. She is 8 years old, but I think she will always find a way to snuggle on my lap! BJ was in the chair working on a drawing and AJ was standing near us. I don't remember exactly what he was doing, but probably tossing a ball in the air as he is often found with a ball in his hands. The topic of conversation moved to BJ and her desire to be a fashion designer. She loves fashion, style, and music. AJ asked her a question or two and BJ's response indicated that her belief about the fashion designing dreams were mere fantasies - she didn't really believe they could become reality. AJ jumped on this disbelief quickly and reminded her of her passion, talent, and skills. He said in a number of words and number of ways, "You can do it!"
Blame is kind of like a drink that tastes good initially, but leaves an awful aftertaste in your mouth. Blame is easy and even causes me to feel better for a little while, but then it leaves me with the awful taste of bitterness and bondage.
Frequently on Facebook I run into something extraordinary. More often than not I hear people complain about all of the complaining and drama on Facebook, but the amazing stories are there too if you look for them. I was inspired by a post written by my Facebook friend, Heather. If you are ever looking to buy or sell a home in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, Heather is your woman. Here is Heather's story one Wednesday morning in September:
Do you have specific times of reflection throughout the year? For most people birthdays (even the birthdays of our children), anniversaries, and New Year's are times to look back at where we have been and what we have accomplished. They are also times to look forward to what is next, sometimes even setting goals for the future. I have noticed that extraordinary events do the same thing. It was two years ago today (October 23, 2014) that I was rolled into an operating room in Portland, OR and left that operating room six hours later with only one kidney.
The journey of an extraordinary life is a series of small, important steps. It is easy to see "successful" people and think they simply got lucky or that success fell in their laps. I have experienced just enough success and just enough failure to know that it is not merely luck that gets a person anywhere worth going. Happy marriages, booming businesses, new cars, and first-class tickets do not come to those who sit around and do nothing.
Achilles' heel: a fault or weakness that causes or could cause someone or something to faili.e. I am trying to lose weight, but ice cream is my Achilles' heel.
It took the rupture of my Achilles' tendon to make me aware of an Achilles' heel in my life.
